Brewer In Wisconsin |
. |
The highlight of great hunting season was our trip to Wisconsin. Dennis invited us down for a week hunting woodcock, grouse and ducks. The woodcock numbers weren’t very high during our stay there; but still provided a great time for Brewer and myself. This opportunity is very sadly not available in the Manitoba uplands due to current legislation. Boooo! |

I’ll start with our sunny calm morning in Fort Duck. What started out as routine morning would quickly turn into something special. This bufflehead came into the decoys, and after the steel stopped flying; Brewer was sent for the retrieve. As he got close the duck dove on him. As he has done in the past, the dog dove with him. Looking out from the blind, no duck, no dog. Brewer comes up, then the duck. He turns around to see the duck dive again; down he goes after it, again. Repeat, the third dive Brewer is under for a little longer; he comes up coughing and sneezing. Dennis comments that he is done. Wrong! It took him 2 more attempts before he finally got his prize! A total of 5 dives! If that wasn’t enough, we both left the blind to snap some pictures. |
Here we are after his driving retrieve. He is staring at a raft of coots that were drifting by the blind all morning long |
And the delivery to hand. All in a days work for the dog! |

Here I am with Brewer and Jiggs. Dennis and I took turns mixing the 2 dogs up all week. |
I wonder why we can’t get the dogs to look at the camera? Jim Lee, the famous Wisconsin outdoor writer joined us on this hunt! Hey Jim, Winnipeg is in Manitoba, not Alberta!! :) |

Brewer delivers a woodcock to hand. He must like the way they taste. |

Posing with a couple of woodcock. We almost forgot those woodcock on the fence! |

We had a great time on our Wisconsin trip. Hoping to get back there again sometime. |
