Brewer Hunts |
Brewer, the evolution of hunting for me. I was a duck hunter looking for a dog to retrieve ducks, and a little grouse hunting on the side; I got that and so much more. In the three and half years we had together, we ventured out into unknown territory together, and learned a great deal. With Brewer I hunted game I never hunted before; Sharptail, Hungarian Partridge, Pheasants, and Woodcock. Hunting over a pointing dog was an incredible experience, and still is today. Duck and goose hunting was never the same after my first hunt with Brewer. With unbound enthusiasm he would persue downed game, finding and retrieving game I would have had no business shooting at without him. More importantly, Brewer taught me that I didn't need to shoot anything to enjoy a hunt. Hunting season lasted from September to mid December for me; for Brewer it never ended. There was no off season for him, he was born, lived, loved to hunt. We hunted together every day, in the floodway, Kilcona park, or even in the back yard, he was always hunting. Neil Young wrote; "It's better to burn out, then to fade away", and in that respect I will remember Brewer only as being the high drive dog that he was. Gone before his time, he left me wanting more. |
