Knucklez Unleashed '08 |
Knucklez, named for a Wirehairs reputation as being tough dogs that don't quit. Knucklez arrived home in April 2008; he is a half brother to Brewer, Jiggs (Chump Change's Nothing to Lose) being the sire of both. Armed with experience, I was confident that come hunting season I'd have a pup that was ready to go. Knucklez was very much a challenge from the start; very independent, he quickly showed me just how different he was. He was very quick to learn, literally house trained in two weeks. In other areas he was slower to develop. The summer wasn't without its frustrations, which made the successes all the more sweet. Come September, I wasn't quite sure what to expect from him. As the season went on, Knucklez got better with each hunt. I was so excited to see the light turn on in him; he went from a playful pup to a serious hunter in a matter of a couple weeks. His biggest gains came in the uplands; with each contact he gained confidence. During a trip to Saskatchewan he got enough contacts that he became steady to flush, allowing me out front, as he stayed on point, vibrating with excitement. In December he showed me what he was made of, pointing pheasants, sharptail, rabbits and a raccoon; running tirelessly in the uplands of North Dakota. |
